I rarely know exactly what a painting will become when I make the first mark. A colour, a shape or simply a mark painted on the screen can be enough to get things started. From there, the artwork develops, changes and occasionally surprises me.

This blog is a chance to look behind the finished pieces and discover what goes into creating them. Along the way, you’ll find the stories and inspiration behind individual paintings and collections, as well as thoughts about colour, composition and the details that can influence an abstract work.

I’ll also open up some of the practical side of digital art. You’ll see how I use digital tools, work with layers and textures, and combine photos with my digital artwork to create abstract collages. I hope these glimpses into the process will be useful whether you create art yourself or simply enjoy discovering how an abstract piece comes together.

There will be some posts that will come from experiments — the things that work, the things that don’t, Positive accidents, unexpected ideas that appear somewhere in between, and occasional failures that can lead to something worthwhile. Sometimes a small detail can completely change a painting, and following that change can be where the most interesting part begins.

Along the way, I’ll share some of the ideas and observations that shape my work, with the hope that they might spark a thought, an idea or a different way of looking at abstract art in your own life — what sparked it, how it developed, and what happened along the way.

I hope you’ll find something here that makes you pause, wonder, learn something new, or perhaps see abstract art a little differently.

So, welcome to my creative world! A place where art and imagination meet, where unexpected things can happen, and where the journey can be just as important as the finished piece.

Let’s take the journey together, discover new worlds, and see what unfolds.
